The 2020 Western Region Joint Spring Meeting Going Virtual & The Western Water Summit Postpone

Dear Meeting Attendees,
This morning, meeting organizers met to discuss holding the Western Region Joint Spring Meeting and Western Water Summit in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.  We concluded that the safe and prudent health action was to cancel the face-to-face meeting.

Please consult your association’s leadership for information on how your business meeting will take place. For WAAESD and WEDA members, the work session with WGA and business meetings will be held via Zoom; details will be emailed soon.

Looking ahead, the Western Water Summit has been rescheduled for early August at The Grove Hotel in Boise, Idaho. Save August 2-4, 2020 on your calendar for this event; details will be circulated as arrangements are finalized. As part of our negotiated cancellation, the Spring Meeting will return to The Grove Hotel in 2021. Please save March 29-April 1, 2021 on your calendar.

The Grove Hotel has graciously offered to cancel all room reservations made under our meeting block. You have likely received an automated message confirming your reservation cancellation.  If you do not receive a cancellation notice via email by the end of the week, please call the hotel to cancel your room. If you receive a cancellation notice and are still planning to stay at The Grove Hotel, please be sure to call and re-book your room. Hopefully the airline you’ve booked your travel with will be accommodating, given the circumstances. We are still in the process of determining if we will be able to issue refunds for registration fees.

This was not an easy decision to make. We all benefit greatly from meeting face-to-face: sharing knowledge, experience, and perspective enhances and elevates the work we do collectively and at our individual institutions and organizations. However, we must balance that with risk. We hope that by taking steps to minimize the use of mass transportation and to avoid public gathering we are doing our part to help contain an easily transmitted virus, prevent fatalities, and minimize the inevitable economic downturn.

Lastly, I want to thank The Grove Hotel for their patience and cooperation–they have been more than accommodating during this entire process. I also thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with me via email at or 307-760-3319.
