Western Directors Office

The Western Association of Agricultural Experiment Stations is headed by Dr H. Michael Harrington.  His primary responsibilities are to provide leadership for the Western Directors with high priority regional initiatives and to provide management oversight of the western region’s portfolio of multistate projects that are funded through the multistate research fund, and the development of functionally integrated multistate projects that include research, extension and academic programs.  In addition he provides leadership for the experiment station directors with national activities through the Experiment Station Committee on Organization and Policy (ESCOP).  He serves as executive vice chair of the ESCOP Budget and Legislative Committee.  Dr. Harrington is a member the Board of Agriculture Assembly Budget and Advocacy Committee as well as a number of national and regional advisory boards and councils.  He has served as the executive vice chair of the Farm Bill Committee and was a member of  the CREATE-21 Committee.

Ms. Lupis serves as the Assistant to the Executive Director of the Western Association of Agricultural Experiment Station Directors (WAAESD) and serves as the Recording Secretary of the Association.

Her primary responsibility is to facilitate the operations of the Western Association of Agricultural Experiment Station Directors.  Her responsibilities include: producing minutes of meetings and conference calls, maintaining the association’s web site, serving as a liaison with the USDA/NIFA and Agricultural Experiment Station Directors and other college of agriculture officials, and maintaining all electronic mail list serves for the different groups for college of agriculture administrators in the region. She also serves as the Western System Administrator for the National Information Support System (NIMSS), and, given her professional experience in science writing and communications, on the ESCOP Communications and Marketing Committee.
